Registered Charity Number 1186031
My name is Paula. I started working therapeutically with abuse in 2002.
When I started my training, I held a very strong belief that people who could not afford private therapy should not be excluded from accessing help. In the years since that point, counselling has become available more readily through GP / Lets Talk (NHS services) / IAPT (Single Point of Access) services. However, there are often a lot of restrictions placed on people in accessing those services - especially as regards to longer term support. There are understandably huge pressures placed on the NHS and thus to enable a service for all, these limitations are necessary. There is often a need for more provision than the NHS can offer, because with abuse / trauma work it can be a slower process.
The aim of InnerChildPotential is to help people who have been affected by abuse, rape, sexual trauma or other childhood trauma. Counselling / Psychotherapy and support can be an important part of reaching your potential, but there is often a need for reassurance that you are not alone. That is why support groups and education are also going to be made available.
When the abuse charity I worked for closed in 2009, I continued to provide limited services on my own. Since that time, I have been working towards the launch of my new charitable organisation InnerChildPotential. In an ideal world, there would not be any need for such services, but unfortunately abuse continues, despite more media coverage / information being available. 2017 also saw the closure of Survivors in Hull. This was the main source of support for male survivors. InnerChildPotential has male as well as female therapists, and we work with both male and female survivors of abuse and trauma.
Since the outset my service has grown - and I now have a wonderful team working with me (see meet the team page to see how the team is growing)
Please do not hesitate to make contact if you need help / support / advice in regards to dealing with abuse.
I am also interested in hearing from anyone else who may have services to offer.
As of 29th October 2019, InnerChildPotential became a registered charity - a proud day for us all
For further information please do not hesitate to contact me via email / contact link, or by text / voicemail on 07952 624552
